Shabby Chic Free Pattern Handbag

Shabby Chic handbag

By AnnooCrochet Designs

Beautiful Crochet does not need to be Complicated, and I have this pattern to prove it!
This is seriously the cutest and easiest Bag I have made so far, It took me only a few hours to crochet, I was inspired by one of my friend's "Yoga Mat Carry-on".
It is an easy Project, Perfect for Beginners, in my case I was in a frenzy for a last minute match of a bag to an outfit!
The Thick Yarn and Big Crochet hook makes it easy to handle, and you will only need two Balls of Yarn, so it is gentle on your wallet too.
Keep in mind that this pattern takes a little bit of sewing for the zipper, and the lining (Thank you Maryann, since my sewing skills are non existent. )

You will Need:

Hook size 9 mm
Vanna's Choice Colors by Lion Brand  in Sandstorm Color
Vanna's Choice Oatmeal Color
Tapestry needle
zipper

Stitches used:

ch: chain
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
sl st: slip stitch
tr: rebble
sk st: skip stitch

Pattern:

Row 1: ch 24
 Row 2: ch1, sc along (24)

Row 3-24: sc all along. fasten off.

sl st along one of the  narrow sides of your rectangle, and sc in each of the rows (24sc),

and sc all along two additional rows. Fasten off

Do the same on the other side. Fasten off

Circular sides: make 2

Round 1:ch5, join with a sl st to first ch, creating a ring, ch1

Round 2: 15 sc inside the ring, join with a sl st to the first sc.

Round 3: sc all around (15sc)

Round 4: 2sc in each st all around (30sc)

Round 5-6 sc all around (30sc) fasten off

This is what you made:
your sides are the one without the 3sc extra rows.
Turn your work so the wrong side is out.
take one of your circles, wrong side facing you and sl st with your crochet assembling the side of your base and your circle together

Repeat for other side
Sew all lose tails in with your Tapestry Needle, turn your work back to it's right side.

Handle:

make a long ch 220
dc all along

Now I like to make the Handle sturdier by making a crayfish st all around both of the sides of my handle, but you can easily sc along the sides and it will work very well too.

Assembling the Handle

On the back side of your bag string your handle in and out every 2 rows, making sure that your seam falls on the right side of the handle, so you can sew your flower applique on top of the seam to hide it

Flower Applique:

Sew your flower on the right side on top of your handle seam.
